The best bio on Tim Ferriss

Tim Ferriss was born in 1977 and grew up in East Hampton, New York. Whilst working towards a degree in East Asian Studies at Princeton University, he published an audiobook titled ‘How I Beat The Ivy League’, and improved his skill set by taking on a number of diverse courses that included speed-reading and Chinese kick-boxing.

The brains behind the man

Ferriss graduated from Princeton University in 2000, and quickly became employed at a data storage company located in Silicon Valley, where he worked in sales. Perhaps inspired by the vast amount of exciting and innovative start-ups that surrounded him, it was during his time in sales that Tim Ferriss found the time to develop his own Internet business, BrainQUICKEN, which was an online nutritional supplements company.Tim Ferriss

BrainQUICKEN proved to be hugely successful, but combining this with his regular job put a huge strain on his time. When he had to travel to London, he struggled to cope and had a complete breakdown. It was at this point that Tim Ferriss knew things had to change, and he came up with the rather novel idea of streamlining his business. This meant that he hired virtual assistants and found a more efficient way of handling his emails.

During this time, he also sought out new locations around the world, visiting countries as far and wide as Ireland and Argentina. Ever one to keep on learning and adding to his already impressive skill set, Tim Ferriss learned to tango in South America, and got so good at dancing that he reached the semi-finals of the World Championships. In 2006, Ferriss broke a Guinness World Record for the most tango spins in a minute.

What’s next???

Now armed with a new philosophy on how to streamline his business and optimise his time, Tim Ferriss set to work on a new book, ‘The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere And Join The New Rich’. Initially, the book was met with apprehension and rejections from a staggering 25 publishers, until Crown finally decided to take a gamble on it. Sales soared, and it became a New York Times No.1 best seller. It wasn’t without its critics, though, and some suggested that he was one of numerous authors who use fake, positive Amazon reviews to drum up interest. Ferriss however, denied this to be true.

The 4-Hour Workweek became phenomenally successful, and it didn’t take Tim Ferriss long to turn it into a franchise. In 2010, ‘The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide To Rapid Fat Loss, Incredible Sex and Becoming Superhuman’ was released. Like its predecessor that had spawned it, the book also topped The New York Times bestseller list. Physicians questioned its validity, but it didn’t deter Ferriss and his followers, and in 2012 ‘The 4-Hour Chef: The Simple Path To Cooking Like A Pro, Learning Anything, And Living The Good Life’ was released to acclaim. It was a book that combined learning how to cook with motivational speeches.

Aside from his writing and being a super successful business owner, Tim Ferriss also regularly maintains a blog from his home in San Francisco. Also, working day-to-day as an angel investor, advisor and public speaker. Among his clients are Facebook, Evernote, StumbleUpon and Twitter. He is also well-known for his philanthropy, having raised and donated over $250,000 for disadvantaged public schools, and has been described by The New Yorker Magazine as “this generation’s self-help guru.”
