Building A Dream Team
Building a dream team of motivated employees – How it’s done
How does your business go about building a dream team of motivated employees? Let us tell you…
If anything slows productivity, it’s an unmotivated team of employees. Only by working as an inspired unit can any team expect to get key work done and grow a company. By combining energy with skills and knowledge among a group of motivated people, you can enlarge your business and take it to the next level.
Unfortunately, unenthusiastic teams languishing in the doldrums are not an exception to the rule. Many small firms drive away top talent because they simply don’t know how to inspire action and get the best out of their individuals. Building a dream of motivated employees is essential for success.
Let’s take a look at how it’s done.
Pay Employees What They Are Worth
I had a buddy who tried his arm at freelancing for a while. After a few months, I checked the feedback he was getting from his clients. It was awful – and that’s an understatement.
“He failed to meet deadlines,” snapped one client in a testimonial.
“Uncommunicative,” was the one word response from another.
This was not like my friend at all. When he was working full-time for a printing organisation, he was as brilliant as they come. So I asked him what was up.
“The clients just don’t pay me enough to stay motivated.”
There is the rub. If you pay employees what they are worth, they are far likelier to stay motivated and stay on top of things. Don’t dawdle about with this one.
Improve The Workplace Environment
Grey walls, old dusty blinds, noisy thrum from the printing machine, broken staplers, peeling posters … sound familiar?
The picture I’ve just described was my first ever office environment, and I can tell you, it demotivated me more than anything else has in my life. I didn’t want to be there, and neither did anybody else. I felt like I was at the end of the world, and I needed to get out ASAP.
Compare this situation with Google, where staff are treated to inspiring quotes pinned on the walls, colourful furniture, gyms, play-rooms, art, and so on. It’s a pleasant environment, and it motivates people to be productive.
You want people to feel good in an office setting. If you need to spend some more money improving the environment, do it.
Provide Chances For Self-Development
Your employees will become much more of a useful dream team if you provide them with the chances to improve their skill set.
Offer fun training courses that will bolster their talents, and also their sense of self-worth. Introduce them to all the latest technologies, and keep them up to date with everything needed to advance their careers. They’ll thank you for it!
Never Punish Failure
Today, failure should be seen as a teacher that helps us to grow. Unfortunately, business owners / managers are too eagerly punishing for failure.
Everyone makes mistakes. Steve Jobs made mistakes, Richard Branson made mistakes – every successful person has. It’s how we learn and it’s called being human.
The key is to encourage your employees to learn lessons from their mistakes so that they never repeat them. Be a friend to them, advise them, put your arm around them – but don’t scream at them.
Be Clear With Your Goals
It’s really hard to be motivated if we don’t know what we’re working towards. It’s your job as team leader to set clear goals. If anyone seems unsure, ask them if they have any questions.
Building a dream team of motivated employees takes a bit of time, but look at it like this: All you’re really doing is shifting a negative atmosphere into a positive one. Change the atmosphere of your working environment, foster happiness, and remove all negativity and you’re almost there.
And always, ALWAYS communicate with your employees.
