The future of Facebook

Facebook was founded in 2004 primarily for the purpose of person to person interaction. That may sound weird since it is a website and doesn’t actually allow people to converse face-to-face, but in this case person to person is defined as communication between people versus business to person or business to business. This means that when Facebook was founded, the founders Mark Zuckerberg, Dustin Moskovitz, Eduardo Saverin, Chris Hughes and Andrew McCollum imagined that it would be a place for people to share their interests, opinions, and life events.

Social media has evolved since 2004 in a way that undoubtedly even these guys couldn’t imagine. Social media has become a way for not only people to interact with their friends, but also with people from all over the globe. This opened up doors of possibility that just weren’t possible before. So, what is the future of Facebook?

Future Of Facebook

First, we are going to see a lot more business to person interaction via Facebook. When Facebook was founded, it was just a website that allowed millions of people to log in and post updates on their life and pictures, much like a conglomeration of users’ personal websites that could all be accessed through one portal. With its rise in popularity, businesses started to realise that they could create their own “pages” to promote their brand. This evolved into businesses wanting to have their advertisements displayed on everyone’s pages, instead of users having to go to the business’s page.

In 2008

The future of Facebook was completely changed when these 5 entrepreneurs took their small website public and started offering shares of his company for sale. One share of Facebook stock was initially worth about $40 a piece. Now, in 2021, it’s share price bounced from $251.36 on January 11 to $374.54 on July 28. Both revenue and earnings for Facebook skyrocketed in 2020 mostly because of the Covid-19 narrative. It forced organisations and also individuals right toward e-commerce. Also, Facebook Ad Manager, a program that collects data on each user’s searches and offers them specialised advertising. Businesses that want to advertise on Facebook pay a premium for being able to have their advertisements displayed to a certain specialised list of prospects.

This growth of business to person interaction (in the form of advertisement) will also mean fewer small businesses will get the same advertising benefits as they use to. Businesses pay to use the Ad Manager Service based on how large their fan base is. Since most businesses generally start with little to no fan base, they are paying larger percentages in fees than large businesses with existing fan bases.

All in all

The future of Facebook could be pretty bright (if they bring back freedom of speech). They have a lot of growth potential (Facebook Stores, other ecommerce endeavors). Some would say that their greatest weakness is the chance of losing popularity and also being overtaken by other social media platforms which show all and everyone’s posts. Right now, Facebook is one of the most established social media portals. There are many more in the making though! But for now – Rumble, Parler, Signal and Telegram, which have all had rapid growth lately.
